I see movement and choreographic structure as a puzzle to be solved. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to adapt, change, and adjust my body to fulfill the needs of any given situation in the rehearsal process. As a performer and choreographer, I typically focus on full-bodied, physically demanding, complex movement and enjoy complicated floorwork, traveling through space, and finding the extreme possibilities in my body. Within those extremes, I am often able to uncover hidden pathways and methods of aligning the body, discovering movement that feels new to me. It’s interesting to see how those ideas intersect, overlap, and affect performance outcomes. Simultaneously, I enjoy exploring the internal experience that comes from and facilitates movement creation. Whether physical or emotional, the dancer’s experience affects how movement is observed and interpreted by an audience. It creates an element of transparency and authenticity between dancer and viewer; seeing and feeling genuine experiences of humans dancing is exciting and leaves me wanting more.
